Long Haired[]
Long haired basset hounds are known among Basset Hound fanciers, but are not very common. What gene or genes used to create a long haired Basset Hound are unknown, but it is believed to be a recessive gene.
Arguements[]
Standard[]
It is not considered standard or desireable because when these dogs would be out in the field hunting, long coats would be troublesome when it came to debris. Hounds in general are typically short coated but many breeds exist in the sporting group which have long coats.
